Summer School: California

July, 24, 6:00PM

We begin our New World (non-European) section of Summer school with the wines of the good old U. S. of A; more specifically, the wines of California.

The state of California is the reigning King of American wine and an elite player in the world wide scene but it hasn’t always been this way. Find out how our 31st state came to dominate America, compete on the world market with the big boys of the Old World, and find out where it is headed towards next.

Don Lott may be the best, most knowledgeable person working for SGWS distributorship. A true Cork Dork and Spirit Hound, Don's promotes the education of wine and spirits on all levels. He has devoted years to education to achieve his Certified Sommelier with the Guild of Master Sommeliers as well as accomplishing his WSET Level II certification in Wine and Spirits. He has traveled the state and hosted dinners and education seminars in the history of both Wine and Spirits of the world. His current role as an Area Manager for SGWS gives him access to some of the finest wines and spirits ever bottled. When he is not at home with his wife and family of 5 he can be found with his nose in a glass or in a book sating his thirsts.

From ubiquitous Napa Cab to the lesser known Rhone Rangers of the central coast, please come and experience the history and the flavors of the new land of the vine: California.

Class is tomorrow, Tuesday at 6PM. Class admission will be $20. Included in the admission is a taste of six, pitch-perfect bottles of California sunshine.

Whether you’ve been to Napa once, twice, or seven times there is still so much more to learn and taste when it comes to Cali vino.

Summer School: History of Bourbon
July, 31, 6:00PM

It’s time for “Whiskey part deux: the revengening, this time it’s Bourbonal.”
With this, our second whiskey class, we will take a magnifying glass to Bourbon and its integral part in the history of our country.

This Tuesday, July 31 th at 6pm we will swim deep in the amber waves of American whiskey.

What role did whiskey play in our growth as a country and the greatest trial to our young nation, the civil war?

Join us Tuesday at 6PM to discuss it.

Class admission will be $20. Included in the admission is a taste of six, historically delicious whiskies.

Even if you don’t typically like bourbon, rye, or any of the other brown liquors produced in America the history alone should be worth your attendance.

Summer School: South America
August, 7, 6:00PM

Well, here we are: Just two more wine classes left!

This Tuesday, August the 7th, we will visit the other America: South America.

Our cousins to the south have made and enjoyed wine for roughly the same amount of time we have and with similarly exciting results.
Our guide for this journey down to these, the most southern of the Americas, will be NathanAsaro.  Forget the magazine of the same name, Nathan is the true Wine Enthusiast. If you know him well enough and approach him nicely, he will recite to you stories of mystifying blind tastings and magical trophy bottles to set the fuse of the imagination burning long into the night. On the business side, Nathan reps for Stacole and has in his arsenal of wines (in addition to the illustrious Kermit Lynch book) a dynamite list of Argentine and Chilean wines.

Please join us this Tuesday at 6PM. Class admission will be $20. Included in the admission is a taste of six exotic and delicious wines from our southern counterparts.

Do you love malbec? Are you confused by malbec? Do you crave the smokiness of carmenere? Are you confused, and think the Carmenere grape is actually just the Merlot grape, as the Chileans did for so for many years? That would be weird, but anyway you crush it, the treasures of the southernmost America are worth tasting and learning about.

The Historic Neighborhood Silver Support Network:
August 8, 6:30

The Idea Behind It

The areas of Avondale, Murray Hill, Ortega and Riverside share
a long and rich history. They have become the place to be for
exciting and unique dining, shopping, cultural and service

They are also home to many seniors who are valued and loved
neighbors and customers. Seniors who come for a meal the same
time every week, who have standing hair appointments, who shop
on the same day each week, who go to church, the bank, the
dentist, the dog groomers, or any other service on a routine
basis. These seniors become part of "the family" that is made
up of our customers and clients.

The intent of this network is to connect business providers so
they can share information, resources, and contacts that they
will then be able to use to support our neighborhood seniors.
So join us for our inaugural gathering at Riverside Liquors
/The Restaurant in Riverside and enjoy drinks and appetizers;
get to know your business neighbors and help create a network
of support for our senior neighbors!
